Own Choice of two selections of a contrasting nature. There is no upper limit on the number of voices allowed in these classes.
2026 Syllabus - School Choirs
Please read the Rules and Regulations at the front of the Syllabus as well as those pertaining to the Voice Section. TO AVOID DISQUALIFICATION, please read all rules CAREFULLY. Any questions are to be directed to the Festival office at (647) 282-7335 or emailed to admin@peelmusicfestival.ca.
Please arrange for your own accompaniment. Only the PIANO or ORFF instruments may be used as accompaniment for choirs and choruses. You may have one other instrument as obligato, if desired.
Ages are as of Dec. 31, 2025.
Entrants from Grade 1 and up MAY be selected to compete at the Provincial level. Visit www.OMFA.ca for Provincial rules and information.
Unauthorized photocopying of copyright music is ILLEGAL. Any use of photocopied material by competitor or accompanist may result in disqualification.
ONE MUSIC STAND AND PIANO ARE PROVIDED BY THE FESTIVAL.
Recorded accompaniment is permitted, but not recommended. For the classroom choruses, an accompaniment using Orff instruments may be used, if appropriate.
In a split grade situation, classroom choruses are expected to enter the grade level for which they have the majority of students.
A BRIEF warm-up on stage is allowed.
Please note that Choral Speaking classes have been moved from Speech Arts, and are now included in the School Choirs Section.
IMPORTANT: Dates unable to attend MUST be noted on the entry form, including "early dismissal" dates.
Refer to Rule no. 20 regarding "Own Choice" selections.
Choruses - Elementary
Own Choice of two contrasting selections for Grades 6, 7, and 8.
PLEASE NOTE: Kindergarten and Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are required to prepare the Test Piece and 1 contrasting selection. Test pieces may not be transposed; they are to be performed in the published key. Test pieces may be ordered through Mayfair Music at order@mayfairmusic.com or 905-476-9444.
Two classrooms may be combined. Maximum 60 voices per chorus.
