2026 Syllabus - Guitar
Please read the General Rules at the front of the Syllabus as well as those pertaining to the Guitar Section. TO AVOID DISQUALIFICATION, please read the rules for each class CAREFULLY. Unauthorized photocopying of copyright music is ILLEGAL. Any use of photocopied material by competitor or accompanist may result in disqualification.
Classes entered must be at performer's current level of study. Test pieces may be used in one class only; specified test pieces may not be used as 'Own Choice' pieces in other classes. Please bring your own footstool and, if necessary, your own music stand!
Solos must be performed from memory. Performances with the music used will receive adjudication, but no mark will be awarded. Sectional repeats are optional for the Guitar Division. Please use the 2018 RCM Guitar Syllabus when selecting solo repertoire. Please note that the non-competitive classes are for performers who wish to receive adjudication only.
Competitors from Grade 1 and up MAY be selected to compete at the Provincial level. In order to be considered for a provincial recommendation you must enter a minimum of two classes. To proceed to the Ontario Music Festivals Association Provincials, guitarists must receive a mark of eighty five (85) or higher on at least one selection at the Peel Music Festival. This qualifying piece must be performed at the Provincial competition along with another selection of the performer’s choice, which must be at the same grade level as the qualifying piece and cannot be an etude or a study. Competitors will be selected based solely upon the recommendations of the adjudicator and notified by the Peel Music Festival that they have been recommended to proceed to Provincials if they wish to participate.
Senior Level Classical Guitar
Classes are open to performers of any age. Own Choice of repertoire except where specified. Minimum level RCM Level 10. (Ensemble, repertoire and complete multi-movement works containing movements at lower levels excepted). Test pieces may be used in one class only.
