2026 Syllabus - Classical Voice
Please read the General Rules at the front of the Syllabus as well as those pertaining to the Voice Section. TO AVOID DISQUALIFICATION, please read all rules CAREFULLY. Any questions are to be directed to the Festival office at (647) 282-7335 or emailed to admin@peelmusicfestival.ca.
Original music MUST be provided for the adjudicator. Accompanists are permitted to use photocopied music.
Please arrange for your own accompanist. A pre-recorded accompaniment will result in adjudication only; no mark will be given.
Ages are as of December 31, 2025.
Entrants from Level 1 and up MAY, at the discretion of the adjudicator, be selected to compete at the Provincial Level. Visit www.OMFA.ca for Provincial rules and information. Invitations will be emailed on or before May 5.
Operatic Solos
Own choice of one selection from any standard opera in original key and original language. Recitative must be sung if included in the music.
Oratorio
Own choice of an oratorio aria by Handel, Haydn, Mendelssohn, or Bach. Any standard edition. Language optional.
Lieder
Lieder selection chosen elsewhere in the syllabus MUST NOT BE USED in the following classes. Own choice of one lied from the works of Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Wolf, R. Strauss or Mahler.
French mélodie
Selections chosen elsewhere in the Syllabus MUST NOT BE USED in the following classes. Own Choice of works of Fauré, Duparc, Debussy, Poulenc, Chausson, Hahn, Ravel or Satie.
Concert Classes
Own choice of 2 contrasting selections of the classical genre. Selections from the RCM Popular Selection List and the CC Idioms Lists are not permitted, including musical theatre and popular (contemporary) pieces - this includes pieces from RCM List C for levels 1-7, and RCM List D for levels 7-10. Students interested in attending the OMFA Provincial Finals are strongly encouraged to register for this class. OMFA invitations are given at the discretion of the adjudicator. Only 1 mark will be given.
