A Note From our President

Year number 99!  Yes, imagine: for 99 years, the Peel Music Festival has been operating, inspiring, entertaining, teaching, and nurturing music and speech arts students in our region!  What a testament to the dedication, drive, and love of music of those students, parents, teachers, adjudicators, donors, and Festival volunteers!

In the provincial competitions at OMFA 2025, Peel Festival performers garnered 6 First Place Awards, 7 Second Place Awards, 9 Third Place Awards, 2 Playoff Finals, 8 Honourable Mentions with Distinction, and 25 Honourable Mentions.  Thank you to all who made these achievements possible, and congratulations on these outstanding performances!  Half of our representatives received awards provincially!

We are always in need of volunteers.  This has always been a Festival organised and run by teachers.  If every teacher who is sending in a student to perform could volunteer for just one 3-hour session, what a difference that would make!  Volunteers have consistently said over the years that they received more from the experience than they gave!  Enjoying student performances when you volunteer is inspiring, moving, educational, and creates such hope for our world.  Thank you to parents, family members, musicians, and other caring citizens who regularly volunteer.  We hope to see you again in 2026!

We ask you also to consider a donation to the scholarship fund, if you can.  A lot of families are experiencing economic challenges at this time, but if you or someone you know is in a position to donate even a small amount, it would mean we could offer some nominal financial rewards to deserving students!

After serving for about 20 years, our Choral Section Head is stepping down, and we will need someone to fill that role.  The administrative work is light for this Section.  Someone who is used to dealing with groups, such as a retired school teacher, would be ideal.  If you can be of help, please contact the Festival Administration.

The big news this fall is that we are installing an updated website and registration process, which is used by many other Ontario festivals!  Stay tuned.

The PMF Committee is very excited as we organise venues, adjudicators, and schedules for the coming Festival!  Best wishes as you polish your pieces, speeches, and songs!

See you at the Festival!

A History

Now in its 99th year, Peel Music Festival continues to be one of Canada’s largest independent annual music festivals. Begun in 1927 in Brampton by W.E. Capps, a local elementary school music teacher, the festival was first sponsored by the Department of Agriculture as a venue for local Junior Farmer’s choirs. The scope of the Festival has grown substantially in the ensuing years.

In addition to offering competitive adjudication of the highest professional standard to young performers on a variety of instruments including brass, woodwinds, strings, classical guitar, and piano, the festival also offers classes for choirs, ensembles and for solo performers in voice, musical theatre and speech arts. By engaging top professional adjudicators, the festival continues to encourage the highest standards in both performance and teaching.

Peel Music is a not-for-profit organization, run by a group of dedicated volunteers. If you would like to donate for this good cause, visit our Donation page.

Mission Statement

The Peel Music Festival aspires to unite and enrich the communities in Peel Region by providing a platform for the competitive performance of music and speech arts.

Established and maintained by local teachers, the Festival strives to create and nurture an appreciation for these arts by providing students with further education through exposure to professional adjudication and performances by their peers.

The Peel Music Festival seeks to foster the values of hard work, commitment, excellence and fulfillment throughout the artistic journey.
